About The Smoorfs of Glamdring
Hello, friends — I am Pappie Smoorf. For too long The Smoorfs have remained a mystery… it’s time to explain who they truly are.
The Smoorfs
The Smoorfs are a unique group of hobbit characters in The Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO), created and operated by a veteran player known as Pappie Smoorf.
The name Smoorf comes from blending the nickname for the Ettenmoors (“moors”) with additional letters to form a playful and distinctive identity. The Smoorfs appear as either traditional hobbits or river hobbits, depending on the character.
Gameplay Style
The Smoorfs are run as a highly efficient six-client team, utilizing a fully customized interface built through the multiboxing software ISBoxer. Each character is leveled manually to level 150, without shortcuts, ensuring that the Smoorfs reach their full potential through effort and dedication.
Their ultimate goal is to field teams of six—whether six Burglars, six Lore-masters, or six Rune-keepers—to dominate the Ettenmoors at endgame. Importantly, the Smoorfs do not engage in overpowering lower-level content simply for the sake of it. Instead, their strength is reserved for balanced, high-level encounters.
Despite their formidable power, the Smoorfs are known for their adorable and friendly nature, making them both memorable and feared in equal measure.
Community Philosophy
The Smoorfs do not engage in traditional conversation. Instead, they interact with the community exclusively through emotes and skills, reinforcing their unique mystique.
Their creation was a response to the elitism and toxic behavior sometimes present in veteran circles. By building a fully self-sufficient team, Pappie Smoorf ensured the ability to achieve goals independently, without relying on others for progression.
Legitimacy
Every aspect of the Smoorfs’ gameplay complies with LOTRO’s rules. While their programming and setup represent one of the most challenging technical feats Pappie Smoorf has undertaken, it remains fully within the guidelines established by Standing Stone Games.
The choice of the name Smoorf deliberately avoids any association with “Smurf” (the unrelated cartoon franchise) to prevent copyright issues.
Media Presence
The Smoorfs maintain an online presence through both YouTube and Twitch under the name TheSmoorfs, where players can watch their adventures unfold.
