What did you try before hysterectomy?

I just had my surgery and watched quite a few videos on TikTok about the surgery to soothe my worries so naturally my algorithm is now full of these sorts of videos. I’m absolutely shocked by how many people obnoxiously comment to say that diseases like endometriosis, fibrous, adeno etc can be cured with “lifestyle changes” so hysterectomy is a dramatic choice. Every single time it REALLY winds me up. So I thought I would ask what you have tried to soothe your symptoms before you ultimately decided to go the whole hog and get surgery? I’ll go first:

  • Vegetarianism - did not know soy was an inflammatory food, ended up with multiple horrific cysts
  • cyst removal surgery no.2
  • a hormone nutritionist - amazing for PCOS, felt good but still in pain
  • a personal trainer - had to stop because my flare ups got too bad
  • a homeopath - still not certain she wasn’t giving me sugar tablets in a brown bottle but the chats were lovely
  • lap surgery no. 2 to remove deep infiltrating endo
  • an endocrinologist - told me to quit smoking and my job
  • quit smoking (started again later because my body didn’t work anyway)
  • lost weight
  • yoga
  • pilates
  • keto diet, Banting diet, blood type diet, raw diet, low carb diet, high protein diet, FODMAP, anti inflammatory
  • natural remedies: evening primrose oil, magnesium, turmeric, arnica, apple cider vinegar
  • changed jobs twice to a “more manageable” career
  • applied for financial support to work less (got declined as “not disabled enough”
  • heat pads, ice packs, TENS machines
  • prescription pain killers: amitriptyline, co-codamol, naproxen, gabapentin, meptazinol, diazepam, mefanamic acid, oromorph, diclofinac.

Seeing it listed out is actually quite soothing for anybody who is about to go for surgery it’s certainly validated my decision lol
