What is the ruling on celebrating Lunar New Year?

Assalamu Alaikum everyone,

I am a very new revert, who lives in the west. I am originally from southeast asia and I feel very distant from my asian herritage. Lunar New Year is one of the few ways i can feel connected to my culture.

Is it permissible to celebrate lunar new year, if I use the celebration only for family gathering while completely avoiding traditions that go against islam?

Is the giving and receiving of red envelopes (lucky money) superstitious or shirk? Is it wrong for me to receive this money?
