'You can't contribute in this community yet' When can i start contributing ?

Just started using reddit today, wanted to get off instagram and youtube recently. Reddit seemed quite complicated for my in the past.

Been getting this message here and there. Not sure how to avoid this ? What does it mean to grow my reputation ? Didnt get this message posting in this subreddit, but I cant do it in other places. Thanks for the advise !
