A hot take about the new BuntyHunt
Personaly, I have mixed feelings about the new BuntyHunt update.
First and foremost, I have to admit that this time around the event felt more "alive" than ever before. What I mean by this, is the fact that I managed to advance to League 8 and get the FugitiveHater monster in less than 24 hours. That's a first for me since I am f2p for life, which means that I cannot do crazy 20B damage due to the fact that level 14 runes are something I can only dream of. However, despite my lack of amazing combos/strategies I have managed to basicaly "finish" the event in just a single day. Therefore, I really felt like the recent BH update was trully impactfull.
Furthermore, for the first time in years it seems like none of my BH lobbies had any kind of bots or inactive players in them, which used to be the case before. The entire lobby was active and contributed towards the event, meaning that I was not once forced to solo the Fugitive by myself. I climbed the leagues pretty fast and managed to reach league 5 in just an hour, something that previously required about half of the event to achieve. I feel really satisfied with those changes since because of them my favourite event in the game has been "revived".
On the flip side of the coin, the above were unfortunatley not the only changes that took place. More specifically, in order to advance from league to league you now have to have a specific placing on the lobbie's leaderboard. That does not seem like much on lower leagues, but as you advance towards higher ones, it is then that it starts being annoying. For instance, In order to advance from league 7 to league 8 you need to be placed at least top 2, which is ok at a first glance. Nonetheless, there are two issues that make it a bit of a hussle.
Firstly, people stealing kills/camping/not using their stamina to flip tiles, constitute one of the most major problems of the event. They always were, but now it has gotten especially annoying as they prevent you from advancing most of the time. For instance, you use 4 stamina to find the fugitive while they just camp and wait, and when you finally find it and have only 1 stamina, they do crazy damage to it with their saved up stamina points. I know that this is more of a strategy than an unfair situation, but it is trully irritating when they deprive you from progressing even when you have contributed the 90% on that very lobby. Back then it was not that much of an issue since no matter who defeated the fugitive, everybody advanced to the next league anyways. Also, generally lobbies were filled with bots/inactive players so there were not that many campers/kill thiefs.
Lastly, we are humans and hence, have many other things to do appart from grinding on a mobile game. We have our responsibilities, obligations and need to sleep too. We cannot solely focus on a BH event. Nevertheless, this time around, more than ever before, we are forced to do so. In case we don't want to see all our progress on the event being wasted because of campers, we need to constantly log-in in order to secure a place in the leaderboard. Personally, it took me 4 different lobbies before I managed to advance from league 7 to league 8, just because people stole my kills. On top of that, going to sleep means knowing that the lobby you currently are in is now wasted. Someone is gonna find the fugitive before you and defeate it, while you are in your 3rd dream, regardless whether you have flipped 90% of flipped tiles yourself. I repeat that this wouldn't be so much of an issue if you could advance anyways.
To conclude, as far as I'm concerned, I firmly believe that the BH needs a total recreation. Same event, same concept, but instead of actual players put bots, which claim one non-rewarding tile every X minutes. Then, you will be able to kill the Fugitive yourself (maybe lower the life so it is possible even for newer players), claim reward tiles yourself and depending on how well you perform advance to the next league which is gonna have a stronger fugitive and better rewars/tiles. Most significantly you will not be forced to be on your phone 24/7 and concequentively, the event would feel way more fun and rewarding.
Let me know your thoughts and opinions. Is there anything you disagree with or want to add? Last but not least, do you like my idea?
