Top Three ‘The Office’ References in Peacock’s ‘The Paper’

Peacock’s new series The Paper weaves a few clear nods to The Office into its first ten episodes.

• Bob Vance appears in the pilot, guiding the documentary crew to the Toledo Truth Teller and noting that Phyllis Smith and Stanley Hudson still keep in touch about their Schnoodle dogs, while the former Dunder Mifflin building now hosts a laser‑hair‑removal shop.
• In episode two, Oscar publishes a sudoku in the Toledo Truth Teller and texts the solution to Stanley, prompting a brief phone call that confirms their continued friendship despite the new newsroom setting.
• The season‑one finale reuses Michael Scott’s famous Gretzky line, with Oscar telling editor‑in‑chief Ned, “You miss 100 percent of the jokes you don’t take. Also an idiot I used to know,” linking the original humor to a developing romance.

Why it matters: The limited, purposeful callbacks let new viewers follow the story while giving longtime fans rewarding Easter eggs.
