I quit today
Hey all. I’ve really enjoyed being part of this subreddit and the community here.
But I quit today. No I don’t have another job lined up, I just hit my breaking point.
I was a team trainer in produce. I was the only woman on my team expected to lift and work. I felt the standards were not equal or fair through the team and the money wasn’t enough to keep stressing myself out.
I finally quit because my team leader had me blocked on his phone bc his wife told him to, so everyone else on the team could ask him for scheduling requests or advice/help except me. And as the only woman on the team I felt this was sexist and I didn’t want to report it bc I still respected him.
I just kept working my ass off. I ran carts, worked floral in less than 4 hours to always get back to help produce, pull down, signs, cut fruit, wet rack, and received truck at night. All for under $19 and I did every random shift I had to do. I didn’t stop and chat, I didn’t have friends, I focused solely on the job.
But getting the team training done became really hard bc I didn’t have his backup. I took a medical leave for depression so we fell behind on my trainings, and I started getting pulled into the STL’s office over it. Because when we had an established form of communication it was working, and to suddenly stop that really left me in a tough spot.
And then they gave a shift lead to someone who has been here 6 months, when I was there on the clock and had been shift leading twice a week while the actual supervisors were on breaks or if they were late. The person they gave the shift lead to is their gaming buddy, again someone they have outside friendship with. Something I could never have because I’m a woman. Barely 26, flirts with girls on the floor, their gaming buddy. Who never trained for shift leading even though I’ve been training and doing it for years. Was I expected to train him to do it? No leadership, no communication, just poor decisions and planning. So i was shift leading for an hour before anyone told me it was his job today.
I’m moving on. I’m not sure what I’m going to do yet, but I needed to just leave.
I started feeling like my work ethic was putting a target on my back. I just wanted to do a good job and in the process lost sight of what was important in my life. I became a corporate soldier, and lost track of myself as a person.
Do what you will, work for the company or don’t. I just had to make this call for me. But my worth is not defined by my job, I worked hard for me. And I’m gonna take that anywhere I go.
I didn’t lose Whole Foods, they lost me.
