Rubber stair nosing adhesive.

Doing some renos, and the basement stairs needed nosing.
I just bought the cheapo vinyl / rubber stair nosing, and need to glue it to the painted wooden steps.

Contact cement is a suggestion, but its $50/tin.

Can I just use PL adhesive?
