Need guidance!!

I'm currently in my 2nd year in ECE branch (tier 1 NIT). i want to know whether i should continue the gathering the coding skills or focus on core subjects and skills. My primary aim is to crack a ece core product based company but i've heard that it is next to impossible to crack that...you need atleast MTech from a tier 1 cllg. So i am not sure if i should prepare for gate or on campus placements or on IT placement
