I’m gay, I’m Catholic, and I’m exhausted by Instagram’s anti-gay “Christian” reels.
I keep seeing these “ex-gay” people on Instagram claiming they’re now “straight because Jesus saved them.” Honestly, I don’t buy it. Being gay isn’t something you just switch off. These people are still gay — they’ve just been pressured and brainwashed into denying it. It’s sad to see.
And when you call them out, they don’t respond with honesty. Instead, they get super defensive or dismissive, never really addressing the point. It feels toxic.
For me, I’ve known I was gay since I was in 1st grade when I had a crush on a male classmate. I didn’t choose that — it’s simply who I am. I’ve always loved men, and I always will. No amount of preaching or “conversion” talk is going to change that.
What frustrates me most is the hypocrisy: if Jesus can supposedly “save you” from being gay by turning you straight, then why wouldn’t the reverse be true? Why wouldn’t Jesus “save” straight people by turning them gay? It doesn’t make sense.
I believe God loves everyone, no matter who they love. I don’t hate the Bible — there are a lot of beautiful verses in it — but I also can’t pretend to agree with passages that are used to justify hate. To me, a loving God would never punish someone for something they didn’t choose, especially when it’s not about lust, but about love.
It breaks my heart that so many people are using their faith in a way that spreads shame and fear instead of love. And social media just makes it louder.
That’s just my opinion, but I needed to get it off my chest.
Yes, i used AI for this.
