The Order of Giants Review: more of a great thing, but not enough for a paid DLC.

For those of you considering a purchase of the DLC, I’d like to share my quick thoughts having finished it and explain why I believe it’s not currently worth the price, yet.

* Very light spoilers for content ahead, but nothing not seen in the trailer or marketing, besides my own thoughts. *

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?

It's a great, almost comic-book-like, episode cleverly slotted into the main game. I really appreciated the design choice to 'add' it into the game's story as part of the Vatican chapter; I'm excited to include it in any full-length replays I do.
It's more of the great puzzling, Indy-dialogue and dungeon exploration you're used to. However, if you've seen the trailer, you've seen it all. There's more to explore, but not much of it. You'll find yourself mostly exploring underground areas, with a couple of linear-transition locations around Rome. It holds some intrigue, but the storyline feels like that of a side-quest (fieldwork). I was able to easily finish it within a day; it's around 6 hours at a leisurely pace.

IS IT WORTH THE PRICE?

Considering the price is just under $20 (a third of the game's full price), I believe the amount of content included is unfortunately not worth the price. I'm happy to give this game more money (as a whole it deserves it), but I do believe this DLC would be more fairly priced at around $10, at most. If you are on the fence, I would recommend waiting for a sale for it to drop down. Which may be sooner than you might think, as I don't expect this DLC to go over too well with reviewers.

FINAL THOUGHTS

This DLC will likely disappoint many fans at this price point; however, I don't feel it's the content which lets it down so much as that content feels underwhelming. If this had more awe-inspiring locations, a personal, Indy-centric storyline exploring his character or his past (akin to my personal favourite sidequest 'Lost in the Past'), with no more or less material content, I think this would've been received a lot better.
Although don't be misled: this is a fun extended sidequest to get stuck into, with plenty of notes to collect, enemies to whack and caverns to explore. If the price doesn't bother you - go for it. Just don't go in expecting a whole new area, rich storyline, or more than any one of the standard game's chapters/locations.

Has anyone else played the DLC already? What are your thoughts?
