Best Practices for Assessing or Marketing Land?

I am interested in learning tips and tricks that others use to build comprehensive land assessments and/or marketing strategies, for a variety of different land use scenarios. What data sources or tools do you find most useful, how do you analyze available information, what do you do to capture/present findings?
