Advice Needed - 2003 1500
I’m looking at a 2003 Sierra 4x4 Z71. It’s got 180k miles, overall I’d say it’s the definition of a cream puff. Paint is basically perfect. Seats in terrific shape. No rust on frame. Will run the VIN to check on accidents but from everything I can see it’s in as good of condition as a 2003 possibly could be with 180k miles.
They’re asking 11k. Obviously 7-8 years ago that would have been insane, but these days I’m not sure it’s unreasonable. Plus I love these trucks and you can’t hardly find them in this kind of shape. Here’s my question because I think I know a little bit but I’m far from a mechanic or expert. How much can I expect from this truck and what are the odds it becomes a massive pain in the butt if it’s my daily driver? My commute is short so it won’t see a ton of miles. Are parts still readily available for these trucks? I’m assuming if it’s this clean that barring bad luck the engine should be fine to 250-300k. If it’s the original transmission I’d assume that I may have to replace that at any time, and I can afford that so not a huge concern. Let’s put it this way, I think I’d do it if I knew I could enjoy to 300k plus miles without putting more than 6-7k into it between possible transmission replacement and other misc repairs. To me that seems like a reasonably safe bet?
