What has worked for me (FBO)/Dysbiosis and Pelvic Floor Dysfunction
I wanted to narrate my journey and how I have narrowed down possibly a cure for myself to help others possibly in a same position. I don't have TMAU but had FBO type symptoms, I am now confident its related to pelvic floor dysfunction, dysbiosis, and activated flight response.
My symptoms at its worse was - extreme gas and bloating and the incapability to hold in farts, gas leakage when I have stool in rectum, incomplete evacuation, floating yellow stools, alternating bouts of diarrhea and constipation, wiping that would keep going, foul fart/poop smell. There was a period I could not notice or smell these issues but now I am somehow attuned to be able to notice when I am leaking gas.
I first went to a pelvic floor therapist where they confirmed I had tight and weak pelvic floor. I think because I was so scared of releasing gas my pelvic floor was constantly in a tight position. After going to her for a few months my pelvic floor was no longer tight and I learned some techniques to manually release the tightness or through exercises. This helped with constipation and incomplete evacuation but I still experienced gas leakage. So I have been doing short pelvic floor exercises (I follow womenshealthwithheidi on TikTok) to strengthen it but still need to remember to relax and tense. Sometimes it felt like my body was naturally bearing down which would release the smell.
Then I took Thorne gut test which showed I had high concentrations of Kebsiella, Citrbacter, Enterobacter E, and E Coli which cause sulfur and rotten egg smells. I took the raw data and put it into ChatGPT and asked it to come up with a plan to target my symptoms and reduce these odor producing bacteria. I have been taking Bifido Bacteria, Rhamonus GG, and Sacchormyces Boulardii, Within a week of implementing all three probiotics my stools were no longer yellow and I had less gas which suggested better bile modulation. It also suggested I take PHGG as it would not be as quickly fermentable and promotes butyrate production bacteria which helped significantly in evacuating completely and well formed stools. I have been taking it consistently for about a week now which I noticed dark stool and light brown stool mixed together, which I believe is the PHGG fiber cleaning my intestines of stuck poop that was in pockets.
I also have been doing ELDOA method stretches - which benefits "spinal decompression, leading to reduced back and neck pain, increased joint space, and disc rehydration. It improves overall posture, increases body awareness and proprioception, enhances blood circulation, strengthens core muscles, and can aid in sports recovery and overall well-being". There are fascia lines that run across the whole body. When certain areas are tight it can cause increase activation of the flight response which decreases motility causing additional dysbiosis. The stretching promotes relaxation allowing your body to heal and digest.
Lastly, I have been keeping track of my food triggers. When I get a gas attack I add it to ChatGPT. I had initially thought I had SIBO but I was able to eat many things that are high in FODMAPs. I was able to narrow down that I am particularly sensitive to sulfur producing foods like raw onion and garlic. Knowing to limit these foods helps keep smells down.
I still have issues of controlling smell when I need to poop but believe I am getting closer to a full cure. I hope this helps someone with the same issues. There is hope!
