What's with all the strawman arguments?
Maybe the number one rebuttal I'm seeing from folks who are defending the game from the difficulty critiques is:
"People just expected Silksong to be Hollow Knight all over again and are mad that it isn't."
So... who said that, exactly?
Y'all, I've been gaming for a long time. And no, I'm not saying that age makes you a better gamer. I'm saying I've been around the block a few times lol. I and many others happen to know that sequels don't generally play exactly the same way as their predecessors, particularly games who feature an entirely different protagonist from past installments lmao. There's also the trailers that showed quite clearly that Silksong was going to control differently than Hollow Knight. Absolutely no one is making this argument.
Or the second most common one I see:
"These people have never played a metroidvania before."
Did these folks say that either? What on earth are the odds that someone who is passionate enough about these games will have come to reddit (already something a minority of gamers do as is), find the Hollow Knight community, and then write—from what I've seen so far anyway—fairly detailed posts about what they don't like who haven't played at the very least a platformer before?
The people who fit that category who don't like this game will have put it down and moved on without comment.
I don't know, I guess I'm complaining about the people complaining about the people complaining, but at the very least these discussions would be more constructive if the community actually engaged with what these critiques are saying rather than wholesale making stuff up about the players who aren't having the best time with the game.
Also maybe a megathread would help.
