Are you a good boss?
Today I read a thread I can't find anymore. The situation was: boss found out there's a group chat (without him obviously) where his employees hated on him. He didn't know what to do: take it as a breach of trust? Do something, do nothing?
I wanted to add my 2 cents. In my opinion his team didn't trust him. Which is BAD.
I gather my team whenever there seems to be bad mood and actively ask them to roast me. To gang up on me and tell me what I'm doing wrong. Their JOB at this meeting is to tell me what is wrong. My job is to find out what I should do better. I offer solutions and ask them if in their opinion that would solve the problem. If it doesn't, I ask again until we find a solution which alleviates or solves the issue. If it does, I do my best to implement it. Either way, I thank them for being honest and open with me. If my ego can't handle this approach, I shouldn't do this job.
Then after a week I ask them individually if it actually got better or if something else came up. I implement the feedback. It's very very important to me that my team loves what they do and they like the company and don't dread coming to work.
In my 9 years where I'm self employed exactly one person left on their own accord.
So, these are my 2 cents: get the team to trust you enough to tell "you're doing your job very bad" to your face. Then they will always have your back.
