Comfort around gun ownership

:post-discussion: discussion

My partner is trans, I am a queer woman. They are getting increasingly uncomfortable with the administration and its followers, and with the newest "trans people wont be able to buy guns" that is being spouted, they want to purchase a gun now in case they cant later.

I have always been very anti-gun and anti-violence, but I know theyre right. If someone is threatening me, my stance on violence does not matter.

I've read through posts here and others, about how a gun is a tool just like any other. But a gun is not just a tool; it is made with the purpose of threatening or taking a life, and I cant seem to be comfortable with being in possession of a tool like that.

Others who have had similar feelings, what changed? How did you overcome these thoughts and discomfort?
