Career change to live sound
Hello everyone, I am 23 yo and an electrician by trade of 5+ years. Live music, especially music festivals have become something I am deeply passionate about. Combining my love for music and live production with my construction background is something I believe is calling me, yet I’m not sure where to start. Working with people to create beautiful audio/visual experiences speaks to me much more than wiring houses. My end goal would be to have a production crew, specializing in the niche type of music style I like at festivals and one off shows throughout the year.
I would love to hear from anyone with experience in getting into the industry. What would be the first step you would take as a person with very little to no A/V experience to get your foot in the door? How is the pay starting out? I’m not opposed to warehouse labor and stagehand work as I have assumed that’s where most people start. Ideally having hands on experiences working with a wide variety of equipment and structures seems like the best way to get the experience.
Any advice is appreciated. Thank you everyone!
