Civic got totaled in a crash. Thoughts on getting an MR2?

So yea I got in a crash a few weeks ago and cars totaled. I should be receiving a check from my insurance at some point so I’m looking into cars again. Naturally the responsible side of me started looking at Civics and Camrys but then teenage me resurfaced and I remembered how much I loved the MR2 but didn’t buy one then because I was broke and didn’t want to gamble on buying an old JDM car hoping I wouldn’t have problems with it.

Now I’m out of college and I’m comfortable at the moment. I totally get that it’s near impossible to find one where you don’t have to fix or address SOME thing but if I could find one that drove well and was well maintained. Would you guys still advise me to stay away from it?

I’m not looking into doing any performance mods any time soon it’ll be a daily car so I’ll keep it as reliable as possible until I make more money. I’d probably just make it look good. I think I just need people to tell me to throw the idea away but hoping maybe it won’t be too bad as a daily.

What are your guys thoughts?
