Thinking about court reporting

Hello, I have been interested in court reporting but I wanted to get some opinions.

I have an associates in graphic design but I struggled to find a job and enrolled in university for my bachelors in visual communication design. I am worried I will face the same situation once I finish my bachelors and it also feels like I’m starting over again. It’ll be another 3 years for me to finish and I’m concerned I am wasting time. Currently, I do some freelancing and work as a barista.

I came across court reporting on TikTok and I’ve been interested since. I enjoy typing, on a regular keyboard I am around 90-100wpm. I enjoy watching law/legal shows but I know it’ll be different working in that environment. I like the job security and the pay and know about NCRA A-Z online program but I haven’t had any time to check it out yet.

I am just a little hesitant to change careers. My original plan was to finish my bachelors and work a couple years in graphic design then work my way through court reporting school but I wouldn’t be eligible for the Pell grant to cover education costs.

Any thoughts or opinions are greatly appreciated!
