Full transparency up front: Shokz sent me these [Opendots clip-on earbuds](https://shokz.com/products/opendots-one) for review. I’ll be honest, I’m not a fan of this earbud style, so I went into this with low expectations. But after spending time with them, I was more impressed than I thought I’d be.

\----------------------------------

**Design & Build**

This was my first time trying clip-on earbuds, and I’ll admit, I wasn’t exactly sure how to put them on at first. Even after figuring it out, it wasn’t as straightforward as sliding in a normal in-ear. That said, once I had them on, they stayed put. I jumped, shook my head aggressively, and they never slipped.

The build feels premium. The plastic has a solid, durable feel, and I stretched them around trying to get the fit right without worrying they’d snap. I also like that there’s no dedicated left or right — you can swap them around however you want.

I still don’t love the overall style, but for what they are, the design is well executed.
**Grade: B**

**---------------------------------------**

**Connection**

Pairing was super easy across all my devices (Galaxy S24 Ultra, laptop, and tablet). Multipoint is here, but you have to enable it in the app first. Once on, it’s real multipoint , not the half-baked version you get from Apple or Samsung where it only works inside their ecosystem.

Connection speed is great too. As soon as I opened the case, they latched onto my phone within 2-3 seconds. No issues there.
**Grade: A**

**--------------------------------------**

**Sound Quality**

This is where I was actually surprised. For earbuds that sit on your ear instead of in them, they sound really good. Vocals are crisp, highs and mids cut through clean, and they get loud enough that you’d think you had in-ears on, but you can still hear the world around you.

Bass is where things take a hit. Don’t expect the subwoofer-like thump you’d get from OnePlus or Earfun in-ear buds. But for clip-ons, the bass is respectable, and EQ tuning in the app actually helps a lot.

**Grade: A+ (for clip-ons), B (compared to all earbuds), B- if you're a bass head**

# ANC & Transparency

None. You’re naturally getting awareness since they don’t block your ear canal.

**-----------------------------**

**Mic Quality**

Calls were decent. Voices came through fine on both ends, though background noise suppression is just okay. In quiet environments, they sound solid. But in busier settings (like a simulated café), they sounded echoey and muffled. Not unusable, but not top-tier either.
**Grade: B-**

# Final Thoughts

Here’s the bottom line:

* If you like this clip-on style, these are really good.
* If you’re looking for highs and mids with passable bass and natural awareness of your surroundings, these deliver.
* If you don’t like this style, nothing here changes that.

The real problem is price. At **$200**, these are just too expensive. Honestly, they feel like a $120-$140 product. At that price, I’d say they’re worth a pickup if you’re into this form factor. But at $200? You can get flagship in-ear buds and leave transparency on, and get much better overall sound.

So yeah, pleasantly surprised ---- but overpriced.
