Asheville vacation- looking for recs

Coming up late October for a long weekend with my family (including 3 young kids). Where are the best/safest areas to stay- we'll be getting an airbnb. Looking to do apple picking and a few easy "hikes", hopefully a farm to table style lunch or dinner out, maybe a brewery or two if family friendly, any other fun must dos? my kids have never seen fall leaves, we're from FL!
