I don't get "campers".

DISCUSSION

I was at an antique store today and overheard a dealer talking about how he started "camping out" in line for an estate sale at 1 in the afternoon, for a sale that didn't start until 9am the next day.

Yes, spent 20 hours in their vehicle to be number one.

What did they find...

An all-gold Rolex watch with diamonds in the bezel?

A trunk full of new with tags Men's Gucci, Armani and Hermes clothing?

A 5oz gold bar for $200?

An original signed Jackson Pollock or Picasso?

No...a Halloween blow mold they sold for $400 and gave $275. They seemed ecstatic they made $125 after camping out in their car for nearly a full 24 hours. Congrats bud, you made less than minimum wage and fucked up your sleep schedule.

I don't live in a high-income area and not once have I've seen luxury brand clothes, high end watches, expensive artwork, diamonds, really anything worth more than say maybe $1,500 at estate sales around here, and I've hit probably 200-300 of them over the last 8 years.

So it doesn't make sense to me to spend all night or even longer in your car, possibly longer, have neighbors wonder WTF you're doing, etc to make a few hundred bucks.

Not to mention entire houses are usually jam packed, so even if you are number one, there's no way possible to scoop up every high-profit find before 30-40 people fill up the whole house.
