Older car cat got stolen and wondering correct steps to take
So my car is a 2003 Acura 3.2tl, it was my first car I've had it for about a year and a half, it's currently at around 180k miles. I just recently moved to Minneapolis and my cat got stolen on camera, I have night footage of the car that stole it but the motion detector got blocked by their headlights so no people were seen. My car was bought for 8k with 2k added on interest so 10k total, I know that's bad but I didn't have credit and needed a car so I just sucked it up, and was actually planning on refinancing with my credit being around 700 but not anymore now that the cat is gone lol. I filed a police report with the footage, I have yet to file an insurance claim as I still owe around 8k. My question on steps is that I'm worried that if I file the insurance claim they will total it. I only just started a job as I moved here so I don't have much to my name currently and I kinda need a car for commuting. Should I wait to file until I save up like 3k for a down payment on a new car? Or just file it now? Thank you in advance.
