As a new watcher I can’t understand the Hate toward Gaby

I started AOT and almost finished the final season part 1. I saw so much backlash online on that character that I was expecting her to be the greatest asshole of the anime. Turns out shes just an another brainwashed kid that was ostracized. Her being such a devoted soldier is her way of coping for her condition. Thinking there’s a way of being free. Isayama’s writing is genius in that way, seeing eldians killing each other making them ignore who’s are the true ennemies. I think that what some fans are doing, yes she killed Sasha, but she’s too is a victim of that fascist state. And in way I found her to be more pitiful. Being raised with the hatred of your own kind, so much so that you go as far as being enrolled at 12 to kill them and be a free citizen. That is pure misery.

I think everyone also noticed the parallels with young Eren. Trapped in a city in a camp, being hopeless when you’re attacked, that nourishing the anger. So yeah I may be four year late to the discussion haha but just wanted to speak my heart out about this.

Reiner is also really well written, I know his arc is coming to an end, but I can’t help but being astonished when it comes to the mental states of the character and how they develop around that cruel world. Trully genius writing and just such a great mirror of the modern world.
