Jaw Clicking (TMJ) + Angled Wisdom Tooth — Need Guidance
Hello doctors,
I (27F) would like some clarity and advice on my current dental situation and the medication prescribed.
-
I first experienced jaw clicking about 2 years ago, which resolved on its own.
-
My wisdom teeth have been erupting very slowly for the past ~5.5 years and are still not fully out.
-
My top right wisdom tooth is angled toward my cheek.
-
I had straight teeth as a child, but recently noticed one of my lower teeth has shifted/bent. I’m wondering if this could be related to the wisdom teeth.
-
For the past 7–8 months, I’ve had right-sided jaw clicking again. It’s not painful but very uncomfrotable. (I did experience anxiety and panic attack earlier this year, so I’m not sure if stress could be a contributing factor.)
-My lower wisdom tooth’s gum has been hurting.
I visited a local dentist, who said there is an ulcer on my right lower gum, likely caused by the opposing upper wisdom tooth pressing into it. He prescribed Rexidin-M Forte (Chlorhexidine + Metronidazole + Lignocaine) ointment for the ulcer, and suggested extraction of the upper right wisdom tooth.
He also mentioned the jaw clicking might be related to the angled upper wisdom tooth, but said there is no other solution for the clicking besides limiting how wide I open my mouth and sticking to softer foods.
- For reference: I am on Levera XR 750 (1 tab daily) for epilepsy & Allegra 120 for my allergies.
My questions are:
-
Is it safe for me to use Rexidin-M Forte ointment on my gum given my epilepsy medication or in general?
-
Could my TMJ issue really be linked to the upper wisdom tooth?
-
Would extraction of the angled upper wisdom tooth be advisable in this situation?
-
Is there any permanent solution for the clicking?
I’ll try to attach a picture of my X-ray and the ointment in the comments.
Thank you in advance for your guidance.
