newbie to houseplants - give me advice pls

I love plants and want my house to be full of them. I have between 10-13 plants now that are doing okay but I still manage to kill plants more than I’d like.

I have a wicked cold and decided that now is the time to really educate myself on what I can do for my plants especially because I want a million more.

Here are some questions but please give me any and all advice so I have it in one place. Please don’t feel like you have to answer every question. You can pick and choose whatever you’d like but I’ll take anything!

• What products do you use for your plants and why? Do they help? (I currently just water but want to get more active in what I’m giving my plants.)

• What do different soils do? (I’m very overwhelmed by all the different options and don’t know where to start.)

• What is your regime for preventative care for pests? (Still sick but needing fresh air so I’m getting some mosquito bits and sticky traps later today and some plants because I need them for terrarium.)

• Plant lighting? (I see all these posts for plant lights and I’m wondering if I just need to bite the bullet and get some but I feel like I can’t justify it so convince me otherwise!)

• How necessary are trellises and such? (I see all the extra things plant people buy and I find it distracting from the plant BUT if they really help I want to start building my collection or even building my own trellises.)
