OC Portrait in Prismacolor Colored Pencils, Advice?
I'm doing an OC Portrait, Color Advice?
Hi guys, I'm doing a colored pencil portrait of my friend's OC for my ancient Wings of Fire x Legend of Zelda crossover fanfiction. I exclusively use Prismacolor Premier, and have at least one pencil for every color they currently sell.
So, for context, I only have current contact with 2 of my (according to my horrible memory) 5 person friend group that I had in 7th grade (I'm now 19), where we first came up with this story idea. One of those friends I still talk to, for some reason, wasn't particularly fond of the fact that humanoids, while obviously dominating the Zelda universe, are not the dominant species in Wings of Fire. So, in about 9th grade, he decided (and I allowed him) to create what is basically a giant middle finger to dragon society's stereotype of "Hehe, scavenger no dangerous!"
Yeah, not this one. The character's name is Auzday, and he's a surviving veteran of Queen Scarlet's gladiator-style arena with just over 15 kills being dragons at or older than biological maturity, not counting other humans and younger dragons. Auzday has since gone on to win lordship over one of humankind's biggest cities, the "Indestructible City," on the continent of Pyrrhia from its previous lord in a Trial by Single Combat.
Auzday is in his late 20's (last I remember) but looks early-mid 30's, with green eyes and dark brown hair. I've got the eyes down, and a color combo picked out for his hair color, but I've had a lot of trouble with actually shading the hair in past attempts at this project. Somehow, I just can't get it to look right to me.
The main problem, though, is the character's skin tone. Auzday is a white guy with a "farmer's tan," as my friend put it, and I've had constant problems with lip color, too. The last problem with this drawing that I want yall's advice on is how to draw a shaved beard that's starting to grow back in (stubble). While I've Google searched and can see plenty of reference image guides, they're all either for digital artists, or not in color.
TL;DR Can anyone help me with finding skin and lip tone colors for a colored pencil drawing of a sun-tanned white guy? Also, how to shade dark hair and draw stubble? Colors are already picked out for the latter. I only use Prismacolor Premier, but I have at least 1 pencil for every color they currently sell, so no options are off the table.
Thanks in advance, guys!
