Prediction - within the next ten to twenty years, someone will make a limited series about this stage of Lyle and Erik’s lives

Discussion

Probably not until after they’ve been paroled, because it’ll need an “ending.” But there have been so many dramatic events in their lives in the last several years that I think some writer or producer will see the potential there, and the case has had enough interest over the decades that they’ll be able to get funding to make a series. (Hopefully an accurate one that’s respectful to the family…)

If I were going to do it, I’d have the first episode show their lives apart in different prisons and end the episode with their reunion in 2018. I wouldn’t cast an actor as Hochman and I’d use archival footage of him instead. (Anyone remember Milk from 2008? Like how that movie used archival footage of Anita Bryant, so everyone would understand that the filmmakers weren’t exaggerating about her in the script.) I’d also use archival footage for any depiction of the brothers as younger men, and I’d have the opening credits interspersed with pictures of them as children.

Man, think of all the people who would be characters who’ve never been cast with actors in any Menendez media before. Rebecca, Tammi (okay, she was a one-line voiceover in “Monsters”), Talia, Anamaria, Geragos, Cooper Koch…and, yeah, it would probably require at least a few minutes of Milly.

Anyone else think there’ll probably be a limited series someday about Lyle and Erik’s fight for freedom? And if you were making one, are there any particular creative choices you’d want to make?
