What helped you see the difference between movement and direction

General

I was an intelligent and highly curious child. I participated in several competitions and even won awards. I grew up with my mother, who deeply cared for her children though I never quite felt like her favorite. I remember how my class teacher once described me as "overconfident" in my report card. That single word seemed to echo. My mother and some of her friends began calling me arrogant, and that criticism deeply affected me. I started to shrink inward. Over time, fear replaced confidence, and slowly, my academic performance declined. It was like I lost my identity.Middle school wasn't much different. I continued to struggle academically. Whenever I saw my classmates receiving awards or being recognized, I felt this deep, nostalgic regret a reminder of who I used to be. My mother would often say we were “just average” kids, and she blamed the poor quality of my elementary school. I began to accept this as truth. Now, I’m 19 and in college. I’m in a new environment, and for the first time in a while, I’m beginning to notice some positive changes. My sense of self is slowly returning. My curiosity is alive again, and I’m learning new things daily. But I still face challenges especially when it comes to decision-making and finding my path.I chose nursing, but I don’t feel connected to the course. As I explore new ideas and knowledge, I find myself interested in other fields. Yet I’m afraid afraid of making the wrong move, afraid of losing interest again, and afraid of wasting time. It feels like I’m moving, but not in the right direction. And deep down, I know this isn’t the life I truly want for myself.Still, my ambition hasn’t changed. I know what I want. I just don’t know how to get there for what I want for my self. How would you help a victim in this situation.
