I Committed Insurance Fraud for 1.5 Years: Worked While Pretending I couldn't Work

Yes, as the title suggests, I committed insurance fraud. Here's the story:

I worked in a toxic environment for a number of years, taking a severe toll on my mental health. Eventually, I had enough and had a mental breakdown. Important to note that while I had a full time job, I had a part time job also for my municipality/city that paid very well.

When I had a breakdown, I stopped working both jobs. I used my sick time, government medical insurance for a few months, then I was transferred back my company's insurance. Short term disability turned into long term disability for a few years. During this time I decided I wanted a career change and was taking steps to return to school full time. Simultaneously, not working for a few years became boring as fuck. I craved some kind of stimulation.

So I decided to call my boss from my part time job up (I was still employed) and say "Hey, I want to work again''. So I started working again, 24 hours per week, making $32/hr, while collecting long term disability from my full time employer. During this time I spoke with my disability case worker, pretended to still be suffering and unable to work.

Started school 6 months later, continued to work part time and continued to collect long term disability. A few months into school, spoke with the caseworker, said I was going back to school in January but only part time which was a lie. Some back and forth, took my time getting medical documentation, etc. School ended for the year, worked full time hours at my part time job, still continued to receive long term disability payments for a few months. Finally, insurance caseworker said you managed to do well in school, your psychiatrist says your mood is good, so we cannot continue with insurance payments. We will give you 2 more monthly payments then it will be done. I said ok.

After taxes, I received about $55, 000 from my insurance which was 65% of my base pay.

During this time, I also made about $50 000 from my part time job.

Fuck my former employer.
