Is it just me or has the modern American office setting become too complicated?

Here's what I mean by complicated; the processes, technology, and services employers are requiring their staff to use.

I get that we need procedures to ensure things are done correctly or to at least prevent legal issues. We need the correct tools to do things properly as well. But have we reached a point where the number of services, procedures, meetings, and pieces of technology have just created more work instead of improving work?

Here is what I'm experiencing. Right now I am working two jobs, but I will start with the excess I notice at my primary job. I'm working on-site, in an office as part of our company's project management department. The number of required services I use is just nuts. On top of all the subscriptions and software, nearly all of them require an authenticator for 2FA. New software and services are added to our workflow on a regular basis. Even things that are not part of the actual work we do are becoming more complicated. These are things like tracking hours and making templates in order to do the actual work. Those tasks are becoming jobs themselves.

For this job I have two computers. Each has different capabilities and therefore has different software. Our IT department didn't feel like migrating everything to the more powerful unit. I've had to attend meetings where I needed to lug both laptops with me. On top of that, I have a company-issued phone. On the one hand it is nice to be able to shut my work phone off at the end of the day without shutting out my friends and family. On the other hand, I feel obnoxious walking to a conference room with two phones and two laptops.

My other job is actually multiple jobs in one. There I'm the facility manager, IT admin, photographer, videographer, webmaster, and social media manager. It's a small organization. I have two laptops for that job too. All of the media aspect of my job is done on a MacBook Pro. My other computer is a gaming laptop running Windows 11. On Windows I'm doing all of my architectural and civil engineering work. We're making renovations and upgrading several pieces of infrastructure. I do my IT work from whatever computer happens to be in front of me at the moment. The number of accounts and services I manage seems to be growing there too. I'm the administrator for our database (and employee scheduling), Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, security cameras, alarm system, access controls, and so much more. Plus I manage all the physical devices we use, such as computers, tablets, and equipment.

Most of these things for both jobs seem to require another set of education that some people can't handle. Even though I'm wired that way, the increasing number of services we need to use, plus the increasing number of features each service offers, is just making the whole process to complicated. If you're someone like me where it mostly comes naturally, you find yourself answering too many questions. If the average worker is getting bogged down by task overload from tools meant to improve work, have we really improved anything?
