Why does forgiving feel so much harder than holding a grudge?

Lately I’ve been reflecting on how much energy it actually takes to not forgive. The constant replaying, the heaviness, the resentment — it wears us down.

But then there’s the leap of forgiveness… which feels terrifying, vulnerable, almost impossible sometimes.

Why do you think we resist forgiveness so much, even when we know it might set us free?
