Was me correcting someone really considered inappropriate?

I happens to speak 3 languages, and in uni during a group project, a professor walked in and noticed me speaking 2 languages with other students, so he asked me “wow you are bilingual?” To which I replied with “actually I’m trilingual.” I didn’t think it was a weird reply but the professor looked at me, laughed, and asked everyone around the room “she is the prideful one in here, isn’t she?” And everyone else just didn’t say anything but chuckled in response.

What about my response was weird? Was it considered inappropriate in that social setting? Am I just thinking too much?
