Where to work as an LPN to get the best learning experience before becoming an RN?

Seeking Advice

I have been working as a tech on a cardiac step down unit and would like a role that will allow me to utilize what I have learned thus far and transition more smoothly into the RN role. I've had experience as a student/tech/shadowing in PACU, ortho, L&D, oncology med surge, obs, step down/imc, and various other med surge units. At this point, I am thinking I will be applying for ICU RN positions when I get closer to graduation but that could always change. Several professors, coworkers, and nurses I have followed in clinical rotations tell me that's where they see me as well.

In my area, LPNs are not hired on step down or ICU floors, so that is not an option. I'm seeing job openings in the hospital setting primarily for med surge and and few in the ED. I will probably have an easier time getting a job in med surge, but should I really try for ED? Does it matter much? I don't see a clinic job as an options because 1) I don't see myself working in that setting as an RN and 2) I really need to be able to work two days a week max right now and two 12s is ideal for covering expenses.

Thank you for your input!
