Is Timmy’s “HUH?” a processing strategy rather than a hearing problem?
It seems like almost every time Timmy gets asked a question, his first response is that trademark “Huh?” Eric and Patrick assumed it was a hearing issue, but I’m starting to wonder if it’s more of a processing strategy.
Maybe Timmy does hear the question, but he uses “Huh?” as a way to buy a few extra seconds to process before answering. I’ve noticed that when the question is repeated, he usually responds right away with an answer. He doesn’t take the extra second to think. I notice this happens almost every time a question is asked the first time. I feel like Betty and Larry and do the same exact thing.
Eric mentioned he blasts the TV, which could point to hearing trouble, or it could just be that he doesn’t recognize how loud something is, similar to how younger kids often don’t and parents have to turn it down for them.
This group has grown a lot over the past few days. Maybe some people with experience could share their thoughts.
