Can a soul hear our prayers?

Sorry for the silly question but this is something I've had in my mind since many years.

I've read enough from this community to understand that souls, especially ones that were our close ones, could hear our prayers/wishes/messages for them.

So my question is, if this is indeed true, how does a dead celebrity who has like millions of people reminiscing over them, sending them prayers, hear it?
