How is Assam to visit during early October?

Me and my friends were looking to visit Assam during Oct first week for 4-5 days. Would this be a good time to visit and would 4-5 days be enough for this? Not really sure about the itinerary too but wanted not visit Kaziranga. So, if anyone can suggest something good would help a lot. Also, would travel from Guwahati.
