CORRECTIONS! UPDATE! The Green Shadow! Mystery solved! Photo found!
First known promotional photo of The Green Shadow found.
Hello All! I am sorry for reposting this. I had to make some edits and corrections.
Pat Malone started in the early 1930's in Tennessee for Roy Welch. Going by a few different names such as Ed Malone or Pat O'Brian and debuted the biggest drawing heel in Nashville history, Green Shadow gimmick in October 1940. During these days the rules stated at the time that anytime a masked wrestler lost a match they had to unmasked. Roy Welch pushed The shadow to the moon by never losing a match in Nashville, Tennessee. Pat Malone's work as The Green Shadow drew annually 1.5 million dollars in today's money.
The Shadow's legendry chicanery was heat magnet with those crowds causing many riots and attacks from fans. There would be times after the match the crowd would attempt to rush and try to break down the locker-room door. One time a fan threw a glass salt shaker in the ring that cut The Shadow's head only for Pat to use the shaker to cut the babyfaces which lead to another riot. Pat's heat caused him to keep a Barlow knife in his boot, and he used it more than one occasion. A famous story with "ol Barlow" was the time a fan came into the ring to stab Pat in the chest only for The Shadow to chase him out of the Area, and was found on top of the man with his knife in hand sawing back in forth in attempt to remove the man's head.
In his elder years the old shooter, went with Jerry Jarett during the split from Nick Gulas due to Jerry being a Roy Welch guy. His age is unknown, and he never really left the wrestling business with him helping sell programs at Jarett's shows, and guarding the lock room door from intruders. This is definitely a brief history of the man but I hope it was fun reading! I encourage everyone to research more on the man.
