AITA for waking up at 6:15 rather than 6:00?
I (17NB) live with my mum (56F).
I used to go to a school that started at 8:45, and I’d wake up at 6:00 to be able to get there on time. Yes, I used to take around 2 hours to get ready in the morning. (I think that could be attributed to my currently-in-the-diagnostic process ADHD causing me to get distracted by every little thing.) Since then, my school unexpectedly shut down, and I’ve been forced to switch to a school that starts way earlier, requiring me to leave out at 7:00.
I refuse to get up at 5:00 every single day, so I’ve trained myself to minimise my getting ready time by using that hack where every task takes one song length. It now takes me 45 minutes.
Because of this minimised time, I allow myself to get up at 6:15. (It’s actually 6:05, but I allow myself to get up gradually and pack my laptop in my bag after charging it overnight.) This means that everything in my morning runs on a tight schedule, but I’m fine with that. My mum likes to do my hair in the morning (she has an obsession with us looking perfect every time we leave the house), so she’s fully aware of my morning routine.
This morning, she shouted at me because I didn’t leave my room until 6:15, stating that I was making myself anxious (I’m not. I have anxiety, but my morning isn’t a source of it). When I told her that, she said “Yeah, well, it’s making me anxious, so you need to start getting up at 6:00 and not leave everything to the last minute.”
I didn’t think I was doing anything wrong. I know that she does my hair in the mornings, but I’ve been telling her for months that I want to do it myself, because I can’t be reliant on her forever. (She won’t let me.)
I don’t think my morning routine that affects hers in no way/could if she listened to me wanting to be independent is hers to police. I know it’s only 15 minutes, but that 15 minutes means I start the day off in a good mood. AITA for taking them?
