Keeping kids safe on YouTube after this week’s news
Parent of two here,
My kids are glued to YouTube, and keeping their experience safe is a constant challenge. The yt kids app is better, but once they hit about 7-8 years old, it starts to feel a bit too limiting, meanwhile regular YouTube is, well… the wild west.
What really hit me this week was how quickly troubling real-world events like the recent news story making the rounds show up on YouTube. Definitely not something I want my kids stumbling upon. Not that long ago, I built a side project that only shows kids videos from channels their parents approve. It’s worked really well for our family, and I think it could help other parents too — especially in situations like this. How are you all handling YouTube at home? Do you sit with your kids, block it entirely, or something in between?
