Before I listen to this episode, I just want to say thanks to Amir and Jake for bringing me so much joy and laughter in my podcast feed, every week, for years. I found out about If I Were You in the comments of the video that announced the ending of their webseries, so while I’m not technically a Day One, I certainly feel like one (heck, I even created my Reddit username based on a bit they did). I was 15 years old at that time, so I’ve listened to these guys through my most formative years of high school, through all the highs and lows of college, and into the confusing, frustrating, and rewarding times of early adulthood. No matter what you think about the quality of their content over the years, these two guys have been the most consistent part of my weekly routine, I always loved seeing a new episode in my podcast feed every Monday and listening to their banter.
When they announced the end of IIWY, I said in that Reddit thread that it would be weird for them to not have a podcast when they have an entire podcast network. Their intro into the announcement even started with Jake telling people not to unsubscribe from the feed. This time, it actually feels real. Since they announced the end of Segments, they’ve said nothing of the sort, and have been pushing the Patreon more and more. I’ve considered re-subscribing to the Patreon, I’m sure it’s gotten better over the past few years, and I’m sure it will now that they don’t have to worry about the main-feed podcast, but it still feels to me like a true end of an era. My biggest regret when it comes to their podcasting peak is that I never got to see them do a live show in person. When they were touring a lot, I lived in a state that I knew they probably wouldn’t visit, and I had neither the means nor the funds to travel to see a live show. Now that I have money and live elsewhere, if they ever were to put out another creative medium that involved them touring, I hope they would consider coming to Texas.
If this is truly the end of their them podcasting together, I just want to say thanks for everything! u/ImAmirBlumenfeld/ & u/LegitJakeHurwitz/ You guys helped shape my sense of humor, and ultimately, helped shape me into the person I am today. I hope you know that there are fans out there that really appreciated you guys putting out a show for us every week, right to the very end.
So with that, the last thing I’ll have to say about it is this: Todah!
