Mwo: troubles in assaults

I'm relatively new to Wmo and in more recent matches I have more and more often encountered the issue of teammates retreating and leaving the assaults begind only a few seconds into the engagement with the enemy team. Is there a way to proactively avoid this situation as an assault player?
