⚠️ I will not tolerate transphobia, misogyny, and any endorsement or toleration for what Charlie Kirk has said and done in the past, I also don’t want to hear anyone glorifying his demise, nor glorify GFM’s past actions on the internet.⚠️

Now getting into the topic, how I found out about this whole thing with CK was pretty horrifying, while I did not like the man at all for the things he’s said and believed, I do think his demise was something that makes me fear for what’s to come in the future revolving around this and anything similar or related to this (I live in the US). However, when I found out what Gretchen Felker Martin had said about him in her BlueSky posts, i wasn’t surprised given her track record of the things she’s said and done online and to others, despite her being in the position of being a writer with quite a good following (not like this is first writer to have had loads of controversies that are just as or worse than her), and I also thought DC wouldn’t pay no mind to it as they already have shown not to care for her past actions given they hired her on the spot to write this book. That was what i thought… until I woke up this early morning to find out this run has been cancelled all together… it was like someone straight up smacked me across the face to wake me out of my exhaustion this morning (I had stuff to do earlier). Now did I expected this run to get cancelled eventually? Personally, yes, but not for this reason.

Given how DC has shown not to care about the writers and their backgrounds, hiring questionable and horrible people like Scott Lobdell and Tom King (there are plenty of others but those are who have in the top of my head so far), I’d thought they’d keep her until the sales would plummet eventually, which I could’ve seen happening given her interview and how she claimed to not have any knowledge of either character and refused to hear criticisms from others online, good criticisms not bigotry, also her mentioning originally that she didn’t care for superhero themed stories at all. The reviews also showed that majority believed the first issue had a decent to good storyline but it just didn’t feel like these characters (RH and Huntress) weren’t really themselves, and they would be right! If you don’t research what you’re writing about and only get sources from one person and from not very reliable sources obviously it’s doomed to fail at some point, I sound blunt but it’s true, it’s clear that these two characters were made to be her OCs and/or self inserts, if you read both characters books, it’s like a regression for RH (going back to his UTRH self again it seemed) and a total recreation for Huntress (school teacher, birds of prey member, and much more to mindless killing machine who wants to be with RH despite never interacting with him (that’s how GFM described her by claimed she only knows killing and anything else is uncomfortable and foreign to her..)), and that “toxic relationship” they claimed to have created for these to characters being together and all (along with those weird ass romantic cover arts of the two being together and all (no offense to the artists)) if they planned for that romance to be toxic…yeah.. we have Twilight to showcase romanticizing toxic relationships thank you very much…🙄(Stephanie Meyer).

But really, I just think it was cancelled for the wrong reasons, not only because of the double standards at play here but because of DC’s lack of effort to hire better, non controversial writers, I doubt it’s rocket science, they’re just thinking business is all, i doubt this will be a lesson for them as they still have controversial writers working for them.

I also want to point out once again that Gretchen Felker Martin is not a saint at all, she literally has done the following: **she’s been exposed for being Biphobic and has tweeted something questionable about asexuality, supports rape porn in fictional stories because they’re “fictional characters”, sent incest gifs to an incest-CSA survivor just because the victim argued with the writer over the appropriateness of underage sx and incest in fiction (her (the writer) going with her it’s fiction logic), ranted about why there wasn’t enough sx in queer YA books, and also harassed another writer for reasons explain in this article: https://www.patreon.com/posts/genre-grapevine-60545382**
She also liked a post on BlueSky of someone comparing Jason to when he was Robin (a kid) being beaten up by Joker to BDSM (disgusting), don’t believe me, there are screenshots of it on social media (twitter).

With all that being said, I’ve seen many people praising the comic, praising her, and defending her and her choices she’s made not only for this comic but in general, just because she’s a trans woman… being transgender doesn’t give you a pass to do all these things or just anything questionable and controversial, at all. I’ve seen some reviewers had left high ratings on the comic just because they claimed she doesn’t deserve to get criticized for the run just because of who she is and that her past doesn’t matter and that fans need to just accept what she’s done regardless of their opinions on the book alone and their feelings for the stuff she’s done. Literally any criticism that isn’t transphobic is automatically labeled as misogynistic and transphobic, while I do admit I’ve seen a bunch of right wingers shit talk her and misgendering her like assholes, they should be separated from those who don’t care about who she is and rather what she’s done and her decisions she made for this comic alone, it’s not a good look for her and especially not for these reviewers as it’s just straight up infantilizing transgenders.

Also the way she described Helena Bertinelli, and the fact that she is Afro-Italian still rubs me the wrong way, it’s giving off misogynoir, why? Literally her description of HB sounded like she was a mindless, over dramatic, dangerous person, one of the many things black women have labeled as before (The "angry Black woman" stereotype) and the fact that she was being paired romantically with Jason Todd, someone who is also dangerous, is supposed to 10 years younger than her, has dated her adopted older brother, was a sister figure to his other adopted family members, and apparently in this comic calls him “boy wonder” implying that she’s known him since he was a kid… (which in REAL continuity, she didn’t), that’s not a good look at all. On top of that, they just straight up kept sexualizing her in the majority of the cover arts (especially the one where she looks like a little girl (Y’know the one I’m referring to…) and in a couple of the panels (her at his place sitting seductively on his bed, calling him boy wonder, and I know you guys saw that ass shot towards the end…), that’s not portraying her character well, that’s just using her as a sex appeal to Jason.. like as if that hasn’t happened before…this isn’t to say that women shouldn’t show off their beauty and be comfortable with their sexuality, but that’s not how it portrayed.

All in all, while part of me is glad the run is cancelled, a huge part of me is just annoyed with **why** it was cancelled, not because of the red flags surrounding the comic and what it had to offer with the characters characterization, not because the writer is a terrible person (might as well clean out all the other terrible people in DC at that point), but because of a comment she posted… I don’t condone anyone who does something like this personally, as you’d be in the same situation she is in at the moment and it’s just very immature, I don’t like CK at all, I think he was a horrible man for the shit he’s said and done, but commenting stuff making fun of his death and how he was killed isn’t gonna make you look good at all.

My Ted talk is done, if you liked the first issue of the RH run, you’re allowed to think that, but don’t label every single person who criticizes it as transphobic and misogynistic. Thats all, I had my reasons for not supporting it and her, nothing to do with her, rather her actions.
