Poweramp doesn't respond to button presses on earbuds

Preety much this, I've recently bought a Huawei phone and installed poweramp as my go-to music player, but for some reason poweramp doesn't register any button presses i do on my earbuds when it comes to play/pause and track switching. Never had this problem on my older Xiaomi
