Not a candidate for HRT so my doc suggested an IUD ???
I finally talked to my doctor about HRT. Unfortunately, because I get migraines with auras she said I'm not a candidate (I had actually first read about that in this group a few months back and kind of expected it, but had hopes). She also said HRT is for those whose cycles have stopped and seemed shock that I didn't know that. I thought HRT was for those in perimenopause, too, to help with the symptoms leading up to menopause and thereafter. I guess I don't know shit about my own body.
Anyway, because I still have a heavy cycle she mentioned she could put in an iud to stop my cycles altogether and carry me right into menopause. I of course will be researching this, but I am curious if any of you have heard of this or have done it. I didn't even know that was an option so I was a little taken back by her suggestion.
I'm almost 51 and have been in peri almost 10 yrs. I want relief from the hot flashes and low libido and depression and thought hrt would help, but that's out. So she suggested ashwagandha supplements for now. I have an appt in 2 weeks for my physical and blood work. I just don't know what to think about the iud suggestion. I've never been on any form of birth control for any reason so it seems odd at this age to get it just to stop my cycles, but maybe others have input that might help me better understand.
