Should I stay in this friend group or move on?
Heyy, could use some advice.
At the start of college, I wasn’t really social because of anxiety. I would just attend classes and go home. The one or two friends I made weren’t really the “hang out and have fun” type. After a while, I decided I wanted to make more friends and actually enjoy my college life.
I started reconnecting with some people I knew before, and they’re part of a big friend group. Slowly, I began building connections with them. Around the same time, I developed a crush on a girl. But one of the guys in the group had also liked her for about a year, and eventually, the two of them got together.
The problem is, now I feel super awkward being around the group. Everyone knows I had a crush on her, and it makes me feel like there’s a spotlight on me. Because of that, I’ve been distancing myself. The only reason I’m still around them is because a few of them share the same career goals and life plans as me, and I thought it would be helpful to have friends with similar interests.
But honestly, it’s getting harder to talk to them because of the couple. I don’t know whether I should: Step away from the whole gang completely, or Push through the awkwardness, ignore the couple, and keep talking to the people I genuinely want to be friends with.
What would you do in my situation?
