A children’s book about a mice family living in a school

When I was a kid in the mid 2000s I distinctly remember reading a book about a mouse family that lived in a school. The main character was a female mouse who I think wanted to be a school teacher or something? And I remember a scene where a bunch of mice are outside and are having to flee and hide from a bird who is trying to chase them down. I wish I had more info to give unfortunately I read the book during a pretty traumatic time in my life and don’t really remember a lot from that time, but I’d love to know what that book was if anyone could help me out! I recall it being kind of dark, not something that a younger kid would have read, and I want to say I read it around either 3rd or 4th grade I think if that helps!
