Was this the right call?

Beginner here so trying to be as safe as possible.

I use single glass flares from BAF

Went up to an 8ga, after two months, tried a 6ga with jojoba oil and it was too big, didn't try to push in. Figure if it has resistance dont do it.

Got a 7ga the next week. Jojoba oil and it slipped right in. No pain, no issues. Been a few weeks. My right ear has been a little itchy. So I kept tugging at it last night and itching it.

This morning, when I went to take out the plugs to clean, I notice the right ear was a little red around the hole and still itchy. Cleaned it and noticed a little blood.

Cleaned it with saline, put a Lil antibiotic ointment on and went back down to an 8ga.

Not sure if I should've went back to the 7ga.

Thoughts?
