what are your opinions on ear plucking? my vet is suggesting it for my dog. he got them plucked end of july at groomers and two weeks later got diagnosed with an ear infection. my vet is saying they didn’t pluck enough and it will help in the prevention of ear infections.

my dog had a grooming end of july. two days after grooming we went camping. when we came back from camping we bathed him cause he smelled. near the end of camping i noticed him shaking his head A LOT. they checked his ears when we got back and said all is good. a week passes and he still is shaking and now scratching so i go back. they do cytology and find yeast overgrowth in left, nothing in right. tells me i can use sucrolan for a week. also tells me i can use the burrows solution that i use as a maintenance cleaner to prevent ear infections on the right ear since i noticed him rubbing that one too but nothing came up on report. two days later he had a reaction to the burrows, looked like contact dermatitis. took him in and they did a culture test and sent it to a lab. they found it odd that he had a reaction as he used it in june and was fine. i discontinued the burrows till we got the test back. test shows bacterial infection. clinacin is given for a week. its been 3 weeks since the last test and i went in today to do a follow up so need to wait a week for culture results again. at this appointment my vet said my dogs ear is very hairy, even though it was plucked end of july and said that the groomers are probably not plucking enough and suggested we do a sedated ear plucking. i’ve done research online and it seems there are mixed results on whether ear plucking is a good idea, on whether it can help prevent ear infections or make things worse. my dog has had ear infections many times since he was very young BUT within the past 2 years the burrows has kept everything at bay and we haven’t been prescribed meds or sucrolan since 2023. i guess im confused now why his ears are acting up and unsure whether ear plucking is good or bad. scared to make things worse. need advice.
